With the abundance of Jordan 1 releases in the past few years, Jordan Brand doesn’t seem to have gotten the memo that maybe flooding the market with your most popular shoe may lead to fatigue from your fans. With that willful ignorance in mind, Jordan Brand is releasing the Jordan 1' ‘Team Red’ (now dubbed as Artisanal Red) on April 27 for $180.
This shoe shocked dropped during a SNKRS live session when Jordan Brand’s summer lineup was introduced, along with two other Jordan 1s. Yes, they dropped 3 Jordan 1s during a live session in the face of an oversaturated Jordan 1 market. Moving on…
COLORWAY:
The official colors of this shoe are white and team red and you really can’t go wrong with this type of color blocking. It’s classic, simple, clean, and the team red is rather elegant on this shoe. If we lived in a time where a new Jordan 1 is dropped every three weeks, this colorway may have piqued my interest more but at this point despite being a nice colorway it just doesn’t do much for me. I’m also happy to announce sail did not make its way onto this shoe.
MATERIALS:
A full leather upper just the way I like it. The leather isn’t anything premium and it’s not as textured as you see on recent Jordan 1s like the ‘Green Glow’, but it’s still pretty soft and falls within expectations of a modern day Jordan 1 general release.
CUSHIONING:
The Jordan 1 comes withe a rubber cupsole with a Nike Air unit in the heel, about as ancient as you can get but that’s to be expected on a shoe that released in 1985. The insole is the cheapest and worst type of insole Jordan Brand gives us, so if you have custom insoles that you prefer I’d recommend you switch.
SIZING AND COMFORT:
Even as a wide footer I go true to size for Jordan 1s. There’s a bit more padding inside than the Jordan 1 Low so regardless of whether you have wide or not wide feet I’d recommend going true to size.
With such ancient tech specs you can’t expect too much in terms of comfort from a Jordan 1 however, it does the job. People aren’t buying the Jordan 1s in 2024 and expecting a perfect walking shoe. For casual use a few hours at a time there’s nothing to complain about. It’s relatively flat to the ground just like Michael Jordan preferred and the rubber cupsole shows it’s age but all these factors aren’t enough to be deal breakers.
LACES:
This shoe comes with one extra set of laces in team red.
